Idk, they may be a bit jealy and/or contemptuous (due to old historical reasons or something) at the ultra modern megalopolis.
They shut their mouths and focus on themselves in a such a case, which is ok. That's the best thing to do.
I wanna go really bad. I have a few thousand euros left for a far-away trip. I don't know how expensive it is out there, but I'll be watching it.
I like their gigantic modern stuff; their manga-style show business that we all grew up on here in France; the funky ways they dress when they're not in their uniforms, that the French luxury fashion houses have been closely watching and ripping off for long; their techno DJs that rivaled the Detroit/Chicago trend; their unparalleled transportation system, like several times bigger than ours here in Paris, which is yet pretty big; and all.
They have a lot of sophisticated culture over there. We know about this here. E.g., I have a bad girlfriend from South Korea who always sounds jealous and spiteful when you talk about Japan to her.
That's a good sign to me. It just is something to experience, should it only be as a stupid tourist. Tokyo a must-see.
