Did some quick math for fun.

Time for some math using emporis figures for highrises/skyscrapers.

6,281 high-rise building
933 skyscrapers
Skyscrapers + High Rises (NYC)= 7214

Now thats not including JC and the proxy cities. Only NYC core.

Factor in JC:

154 high-rise building
60 skyscraper
Skyscrapers + High Rises (NYC + JC) = 7428

Factor in Fort Lee:

37 high-rise building
3 skyscrapers
Skyscrapers + High Rises (NYC + JC + Fort Lee) = 7468

Rinse and repeat for other proxy cities. Hell, one more!

Lets do Newark, NJ:

162 high-rise building
9 skyscraper
Skyscrapers + High Rises (NYC + JC + Fort Lee + Newark) = 7639

The battle against the supertalls...

New Yorkers should have more say in ‘accidental skyline’ of NYC supertalls: report
The Municipal Art Society’s latest report offers solutions to curtail NYC’s supertall boom

BY AMY PLITT AND TANAY WARERKAR
OCT 17, 2017

Quote:
There are more than two dozen supertall towers either completed or in the works in New York City right now, with more to come in the next few years—and that’s not taking into account all of the tall buildings that don’t quite meet the 984-foot threshold.

And since 2013, the Municipal Art Society has been tracking the rise of those towers (including the skyscrapers of Billionaires’ Row and the Financial District) as part of its “Accidental Skyline” series, which looks at the impact, environmental and otherwise, that new skyscrapers have on the built environment.

MAS just released its 2017 report, and in addition to addressing its issues with recently-announced skyscrapers—including 200 Amsterdam Avenue, due to become the Upper West Side’s tallest building—it also outlines a 10-point plan [PDF!] for addressing what it calls the “unprecedented boom in as-of-right, out-of-scale development that flaunt the intention of our zoning code.”

In its plan, MAS highlighted three major areas that the city needs to rectify to control the rampant skyscraper development in the city.

First, to close loopholes that allow developers to skirt zoning rules and environmental regulations, like strengthening rules that control the bulk and height of a building or thoroughly studying the impacts of a particular development on a neighborhood.

Second, to give a bigger voice to residents in the neighborhoods where these projects are coming up. This includes more representation at the local level and more chances for residents to review land use applications.

Third, to hold the developers and the city accountable to the promises it made to the public while shepherding a particular land use application. A full list of these solutions is provided in MAS’s comprehensive report.

Along with the report, MAS has also released a host of interactive tools that give updated shadow predictions for these supertalls, provide maps that show where air rights are up for grabs, and particular corridors where views for local residents could be endangered because of these tall towers.

“Our report lays out a comprehensive package of ten reforms that will empower the City to level the playing field between private development and the public interest,” Elizabeth Goldstein, the president of MAS, said in a statement. “New York doesn’t have to settle for an ‘accidental skyline.’”

I think we should officially designate this a new style.

I just want to proclaim, for the record, that 80 South Street is my favorite super tall planned in the city right now!

A bonafide, unapologetic, 100 plus storey building.

Anyone notice that the number of new supertall proposals has slowed to a trickle in these last few months? I know we NYC fans are spoiled rotten when it comes to towers of all kinds, but does anyone have a hypothesis for why this slowdown is occurring? End of the current cycle with the next boom starting in a few years down the line? Problems regarding the end of 421-a? Anyway, man, it's been years since I did one of these:

: No work has been done on this building at the time of this post

The proposals need to slow down, both on the residential and office end, until we get the current proposals built and occupied. It's all about the market. We have more going on right now than can be reasonably expected. Look for proposals to pick up after the current boom settles in.

You know coming from a town of 60000 people where the average floor count on buildings can be counted with one hand, I'd very much like to visit New York and see the hundreds of meters tall skyscrapers there.

Heck I'd like to try living in one on Manhattan. Like it would be so nice to have an apartment like 200 meters high with a balcony looking towards the Central Park.

I've thought that for quite a while. Id say all except for Verre could be considered "Neo Art Deco". A term I've heard sparingly before. Verre is almost a gothic take on internationalism.

The 3 new towers with gold fins, terra cotta, blue and black glass. Congrats, NY. This is what I've wanted for Chicago for a while. Too many blue glass towers, clustered together, blend in with each other. These new towers should give texture and warmth.

666 5th Avenue might stay just the way it is, given how things are going for Jared Kushner right now

So, that rendering shows CPT having a spire, hmmmm... Also, is 1 Park Lane under construction? I haven't seen anything really about it yet.

Park Lane is still proposal. Right now nothing major regarding its status. IDK if the spire thing is right though. I just found that Nat Geo rendering but it could be an older one. But they got the height right though, 1,550 ft. IDK about the spire though. I do hope we get a suprise though with CPT.

Rendering with Vanderbilt, CPT, Stienway.

All respectively high in the rankings. 1 WTC > CPT > Stienway > Vanderbilt so 1st/2nd/3rd/4th.

2-4 being new tallest in those respective rankings.

^I remember reading a piece in the NYTimes written by the daughter of the architect who designed it, speaking out against the proposed redevelopment.

FWIW she's also against the supertalls along "Billionaire's row", period, and regularly refers to 432 Park Avenue as the "F U".
