I don't think there's a construction cam for any U/C Downtown projects.

These companies obviously need to get their priorities straight and get some construction cams, haha.

Crane #3 is going up this morning. Oddly enough they are still working on crane #2 which has taken an unusual amount of time to erect.

So I've been working for uber and it has got me to meet some interesting folks, like the other day I picked up this man who was from the east coast, who seemed a bit agitated and drunk. He also said he tours with The Who. But he went on and on about how much he hated Austin, or Texas for that matter, and he thought Austin was the most prejudice city he'd been in. I thought it was funny and was just amusing him the whole time. But your comment reminded me of it lol.

Anyways, haven't been on here for a good while. I think I have a lot of catching up to do!

I sometimes wonder at what kinds of experiences that some of these people have while here that give them such a negative view of the city because the overwhelming amount of people I meet visiting like and enjoy Austin. Sure there are those who don't but we can't please everyone now can we I'm just curious if it's more about their experiences here or if they just have an automatic bias against the city for whatever reason. I can understand such sentiments about Texas as a whole but Austin is very different from the rest of the state.

Anywho back on topic... Who can give a rough estimate of when they think the Fairmont will rise out of its hole?

Austin might not be the best city for some minority groups, but I see very little bigotry among the general attitudes of the people. I have a feeling that the Uber riding guy and most of the others you mention had decided that they weren't going to like Austin before they even got here. Some peeps be like that.

I believe I read that the big dig and underground construction would be completed Dec / Jan. So I'm guessing due to weather delays, mid January will mark the rise of the Fairmont.

welcome back migol24. Started wondering where you've been.

Still here. Peep in from time to time but haven't had much internet access lately. So I'm just using my cell at the moment.

Now another uber passenger said this building was going to be Austin's new tallest. I wanted to correct him so bad but didn't wanna seem like a skyscraper snob lol

Maybe he knows something we don't and it's been redesigned as a sleek 50 story beauty...

Ha! Just wishful thinking... lol

Technically, it was...until Manchester lost his balls and shrunk the building.

I don't disagree. However, I'd put my "wishful thinking" time on adding a few floors to The Independent - so it breaks through the 700' barrier.

There are at least 10 EMS units and fire trucks at the Fairmont site this morning. The workers are all standing at the top of the pit around the site.

Via the Austin-Travis County EMS twitter. Patient was rescued and transported to hospital with no life threatening injuries.

Apparently a worker either fell into a trench or had the sides collapse on him while he was working in one.

Glad for no life threatening injuries - that's very fortunate.

I was visiting a friend in the hospital here in China a few months ago when we saw a construction crew bring in a guy. Evidently he had fallen off of some scaffolding from 8 stories up - broke his back and a few other bones. Not sure what ended up happening to him. They often lack any resemblance of safety and precautions of any kind when constructing buildings here. I'm grateful there aren't more accidents.
