Aren't they just demolishing the Franklin Building Annex? As I said in my previous post, I could see them taking down that eyesore right now--assuming that the activities based there have been moved to other locations--while waiting until the end of next year to begin construction of the new building. No need to let an empty, ugly building sit there across from KCEH and the law school for a year.

Are you talking about the Locust Walk pedestrian bridge that would connect to Locust Street in Center City? I haven't seen or heard anything about that since the original Penn Connects plans were revealed. My guess is that it's been dropped or, at the very least, put on a very distant back burner.

yes that is the one, while nice not sure it should be a priority but hey Penn has gobs of money

But it's endowment money--most of it isn't available for capital projects like this. I agree that this would have been a nice project, but as I said, it seems to have dropped off the radar, at least for now.

Always seemed like the best location in my opinion. No neighbors to annoy, entertainment to cross market.

Planning Commission voted to approve rezoning for the site.

Has anyone seen or heard anything on the 2nd and race condos, the apt tower near the BFB, the proposed residential building near 12th and Walnut or the apt buildings near broad and callowhill? Haven't seen any good news on any of them recently. Maybe all are slated for 2015 starts like the 2 Dranoff projects.

2nd and Race - 205 Race. Developer said early-spring 2015 start.

BFB apartment building - One Water Street. They started moving dirt around last week.

12th and Walnut - haven't heard anything in a few months.

Broad and Callowhill - developer says they will start soon. Just waiting on some final permits.

Walked by this site today (corner of 36th and Sansom, site of the planned addition for Penn's new Perelman Center for Political Science and Economics). Doesn't look like the current construction fencing and activity is related--at least directly--to this planned new addition. They were digging for and installing several large diameter pipes that were sitting on the site, that appeared to me to be related to stormwater management. Of course, they could have been removing these, but that's not what it looked like to me (they looked new and not as if they had been sitting underground for a while). I didn't have enough time to look very closely or ask any questions, but I really don't think they're beginning construction of the new addition which, as I've pointed out before, isn't supposed to be started until late 2015 and completed in early 2018.

And unfortunately, they also weren't demolishing the Franklin Building Annex (which, on closer examination in person, doesn't appear to be required for the construction of the new addition).

SugarHouse all over again, I guess? I mean this place sidles up to two huge stadiums. Live!'s audience is going to pale in comparison to baseball and football fans. That area should grow. And I think placing a casino/entertainment complex next to the stadiums makes a lot of sense.

Sugarhouse has been open for about 6 years right? And since then, there has been no uptick in crime, only isolated incidents of crime where someone is followed home to their suburban area (ie, no local crime), little crime or problems associated with the casino (I read the crime reports each week), minimal effect on parking in the area, an increase in interest for local development (ie, canal street), a blossoming effect on Frankford ave east of girard, multiple store openings along girard ave, and the development of a Septa spur for the trolley.

Of course these things can't all be due to the casino.

I think these south philly residents need to stop reading all the anti-casino propaganda and realize that the neighborhood probably won't be much different than it currently is.
