On the Mechanical floors in this diagram.. what precisely does "Open to Residential Terrace Beyond" mean??

Some what off topic question.

Since the top 4 floors are unoccupied will this baby get a transmitter 1 day? Maybe a short stumpy like Aon Center in Chicago (Big Stan)? Or a tall grand 1 like the ESB?

HighwayStar "open to residential terrace" means that is an open-air section of the building. A "see-through" portion, as it were. No window at that point...if you were in a helicopter hovering you might see the wealthy resident lounging on their open-air terrace.

Various buildings in Manhattan have broadcasting equipment on the roof, just not on the scale of the Freedom Tower or ESB, or even the Conde Nast. All of the WTC towers
are supposed to have broadcasting equipment of some type, but yeah, most of these things aren't visible. Even the antenna on the Bloomberg tower isn't of much significance.

Has the height of the highest residential floor been changed as a result of the overall height change? Also the open terraces seem to be at every mechanical section including the top one, are they outdoor common spaces for residents?

Could be. The highest floors have since been modified. I do believe they created extra units by dividing space.

Looks like another teen daredevil was responsible for those amazing aerials from the top of the tower (assuming the story is correct)...

Teen daredevil captures stunning vista atop skyscraper

By Danika Fears and Kirstan Conley
September 29, 2014

Quote:
A teenage daredevil is taking urban exploration to perilous new heights.

Demid Lebedev, 17, scaled a soon-to-be-completed skyscraper that already stands over 1,000 feet tall and posted photos from his illegal exploit to his Instagram account.

The breathtaking images were taken atop what will be New York’s tallest residential building, 432 Park Avenue, when it’s finished next year. The tower will eventually jut a staggering 1,398 feet through the air.

One of the teen’s dreamy photos shows an eerie, cloud-covered view of Manhattan. “I went to heaven and back,” he wrote alongside an Instagram photo of the scene on Sept. 23.

Lebedev’s account is chock full of vertigo-inducing images of his stupefying stunts, including one in which he’s precariously perched on the Williamsburg Bridge. In a few, Lebedev’s sneakers dangle over a skyscraper’s ledge. Others show him trespassing through graffiti-speckled spaces and seemingly abandoned buildings.

The teen — who calls himself an “urban historian” and goes by the username “demidism” on Instagram — isn’t the first intrepid climber to sneak past security on a city bridge. In July, a pair of German artists planted white flags atop the Brooklyn Bridge, sparking security concerns.

As I walked past the building on Sunday night, I got the sense that it's a very tall building. Anyone will looking up as it dwarfs all neighborhood towers.

But then I thought about all of the other, taller towers that will rise up around it. The scale of those towers to come hits home, as this tower will seem small in comparison.

Speaking of him, Looking at the picture with the clouds, that should have been taken from the top of the crane (there is a picture of presumably this boy sitting there) The top of the crane should be a few dozen feet taller than the top of the builing when it tops out, so at about 1450 ft, which is the height of the tip of ESB antenna, shown in that picture approximately at level with the top of view.

This other picture, from the Imgur account, http://imgur.com/a/XEIpS/layout/blog is taken at a lower level (compare the relationship of the tip of the ESB antenna with 1WTC spire in both pictures) and it is very approximate to the picture of 432 site to show the view, (at 1271 ft) that picture could have been taken from the top of the perimeter.

^ You can tell that night shot was very late (or very early depending on your view) because of the lights being out at the ESB.

I wonder if he could use the construction elevator. Or he needed to climb the entire height.

Probably the elevator. That would be quite a climb up there. But I guess for a view like that, it might be worth the effort.

Although with the Good Morning America clip, I think everybody is over reacting. So much fear amongst people. Chill out...

The most people are asleep between 3 and 4am. That's the best time to sneak about. One sleepy security guard downstairs... I'm not advocating this, but I'm not denying having done similar things in the past...
