Hudson, N.Y. taken yesterday. {NO DIAL UP!}

My family and I drove down to Boston to attend my uncle's funeral on Tuesday. On the way back we stopped in Hudson where my parents and brother live. Hudson's population has fallen below 7,000, but the city feels much bigger. I did a thread on Hudson a few years ago, so I'll try not to repeat myself!

Hope you enjoyed Hudson! I know I always do!

Nice architecture in that city. It does look a lot bigger than 7000. Is that ugly midrise brick building senior housing? Seems like that building would belong in a lot bigger town and that one is relatively recent.

Wow, wonderful tour Mark. I visited Hudson last year and was really impressed with the town. It is kinda rough around the edges, but that seems to be changing. I noticed quite a few coffee shops, antique stores, and boutiques along the main drag.

I do like your pics, and glad to see you got the Iron Horse Bar in there. Thanks for the revisit.

Wow!! You were right!! The town does look bigger than the population shows. Quite a few old buildings. Nice job!!

I had to laugh when I saw the name of this bar. I used to work with a guy who aparrently never got introduced to a belt. Everytime he bent over, his pants would sag halfway down his ass, thus earning him the nickname "half moon!!" Sorry!! just had to share that with you!!

Nice pictures. The town looks far larger than 7000!

Is the rail line in this picture still active? Usually you can tell from the condition of the tops of the rails, but here it's hard to tell if they are rusty or not.

This is what an American small town should look like.

Why so many antique shops, though?

these types of towns usually attract visitors from big(ger) cities nearby on a day trip and antiques are usually what they're after.

Yes, there are probably so many antique and creative-type shops because Hudson has many weekend visitors, and many second home residents.

The second-home residents probably don't use Hudson as their primary address, which may account for Hudson appearing bigger than it's population would indicate.

Hudson was a declining Hudson River town until relatively recently, and has been revitalized by these weekenders, as well as increasing numbers of nearby commuters who use the Metro North station into NYC.

Oh, and the shots are great and really comprehensive. Excellent built form in Hudson.
