I'm really in support of growth in the big outer suburbs to be honest, not sprawling growth but downtown development in Aurora, Joliet, Elgin, Waukegan as well as in near suburbs like Oak Park, Evanston, and Blue Island. I'm also for growth in other fringe suburbs that have a lot of space between neighborhood developments, like Orland Park, Mokena, Plainfield, etc just to fill them out. it would be best if they also found a way to connect the neighborhoods through bike and pedestrian paths that could connect to a more urban center, since often times sidewalks aren't present along major roads. or maybe just design new suburbs as a connected whole rather than separate neighborhood exclaves. all of this would make Chicagoland feel even more like a megalopolis with multiple smaller urban focuses which all contribute to the main city.
