IKEA ground breaking slated for April 9

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has set a date for the ground breaking of its southwest Las Vegas store.

The company will officially kick off construction of its 351,000-square-foot store on April 9. Dignitaries scheduled to attend include Gov. Brian Sandoval, Clark County commissioners Susan Brager and Steve Sisolak, and Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance CEO Tom Skancke.

The store, located along the southern portion of the 215 Beltway at Durango Drive, will contain nearly 10,000 products exclusive to IKEA. It will also have 50 “inspirational” room settings, three model-home interiors, a supervised children’s play area and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish dishes such as salmon plates and meatballs with lingonberries.

The store is scheduled to open in summer 2016.
