During mid 30-s to early '40 there was a huge thing for building new shopping centers (i guess that we can call them malls) to replace old markets. From 1936 to 1945 there were ~30 build all across the country. Sadly most of them were demolished in communism and the surviving ones were heavily modified, ruining the architecture....
