EDMONTON - The fire-ravaged Kelly Ramsey Building downtown on Rice Howard Way is being gutted and two adjoining structures will be razed for a $250-million office and hotel project.

The south and east facades of the historic building on 101A Avenue will be dismantled and rebuilt as the base of a 29-storey tower, bricks and windows will be reused or reproduced, but most of the remainder will go, says a city report released Thursday.

To the west of the building, the developer wants to start tearing down the modern one-storey former Sony building on 101st Street on Monday. Two weeks later, it’s hoped the former home of Swedish Jewellers next door will be demolished.
