Rediscovered in an old file of mine
I thought I would take a shot in the dark and google google images for "Pioneer Cafe Los Angeles".
After looking at photographs of Pioneer Pigeon Chicken..this black and white photograph popped up. [see below]
"Mr. Yukio Suzuki, owner and operator of the Pioneer Cafe."
but as you can see, the address is different.

I checked the 1940 phone directory and the Pioneer Cafe was at 421 E 5th, so I guess it was waiting for Mr. Suzuki after his "time away". The 1956 reverse directory lists a Pioneer Club at the 8741 S. Vermont.
ETA: The reverse directories list the Pioneer Club at 8741 S. Vermont though 1987, the location is a pawn shop now.
