The Colorado River is usually green. The murky water here is coming from a major flood that happened upstream on the Highland Lakes. The lakes released water downstream through their dams, and this is what the river turned into. Austin was also on a citywide mandatory boil water notice because the city's treatment plants were having trouble filtering out the debris and sediment and there was a fear that bacteria levels were too high. Austin has never had a citywide boil water notice.

The mouth of Barton Creek where it empties into Lady Bird Lake (Colorado River) southwest of downtown. Barton Creek is a spring fed creek.

Mansfield Dam and Lake Travis. The lake reached 145% of its capacity which was the 5th highest level it had been since it was built in 1941.

All of that flooding started the day after the Austin City Limits Music Festival, seen here at Zilker Park. On the last day of the concert, on Sunday, October 7, the temperature was 90F in Austin with a heat index of 99F. The next day as the cold front came through, the high was just 46F. Some places in the metro had a 60F temperature swing in less than 24 hours going from having a heat index of 100F to a windchill of 40F. This photo shows the main stage where Metallica played the closing show.
