I wasn't familiar with Portuguese Point so I had to do some googling.

I found out out it's located on the Palos Verde Peninsula, north of Inspiration Point.

I recognized that area immediately, ER. That's Smuggler's Cove Los Angeles' more or less only unofficial nude beach. I've been there in my youth... several times. It's difficult to get to and there are no toilets. Sometimes there's gawkers on the overlooking cliffs. When the LA County sheriffs would occasionally arrive...it was back to swimsuits. I don't know the status of the Cove today...nude or otherwise. One of my old 1976 Long Beach neighbors used to go there....often. A Catholic priest I knew used to be a regular there.

That's a very active earthquake zone....sometimes all day. The last time I was there in the 1980s, sand and rocks were literally falling all day from the cliffs. One had to keep moving your beach towel to keep from being hit.

The world famous Wayfarer's Chapel is nearby. [Left side of photo.]
