Is L.A. "noirish" because many noir films are set there, or are noir films set in L.A. because it is noirish? Interesting chicken/egg question. I don't have the answer. I guess any place that attracts so many people seeking a better life or fame in the movies is destined to be tinged with some gloom since most people don't realize their dreams. Peg Entwhistle learned that. And even some of those who attain their dreams find them hollow. And a place where temperatures can rise to 90 degrees in January is likely to discombobulate a fair number of newcomers not used to our regional oddities, climatic and otherwise.
