That's not Santa Monica Pier, I think it's the now vanished
Pacific Ocean Park Pier, "POP" at the foot of Pier Ave. We're in the Ocean Park section of Santa Monica. The parking lot may be the one that runs south of Bicknell at Inkwell Beach (now landscaped a bit). There's two other beach-side parking lots along through there too:
