There's a 2nd Walmart proposed for Kingston, in the northeast end along Division Street just south of the 401. There is an existing Walmart located near the Cataraqui Centre in the city's northwest.

While there is unmet demand for clothing, especially childrens' clothing in Kingston's northeast, this is the last thing Kingston needs right now. Downtown, though it is still doing very well compared to other Ontario cities, has seen a spike in commercial vacancies over the past year, due largely to massive rent increases from property owners. As Division/401 is a lot closer to downtown than the Cataraqui Centre, this could be devastating to downtown.

So far, the only media outlet that has reported this (CKWS-TV) aired a highly biased report that championed this development and didn't even mention downtown, and their online poll has 67% of respondents in favour of the Walmart.
