I have been curious about this but I have not been able to google my way to an answer. Taiwan is fascinating place for railroad fans because of all the mixed gauges, systems, and direction of travel. As far as I know, it is the only country where the mainline and local metros run in opposite directions on a system-wide scale.
Tracks don't cross each other I think? I remember seeing the Blue line from the THSR heading to Kaohsiung.

As for countries which local metros run in opposite directions, France.
