USC dates this picture of the Farmers Market and Gilmore Stadium at 1938/39. Ground-breaking on Gilmore Field began in 1938. Maybe the dark patch on the right is the remains of the "little stadium" in
Chuckaluck's picture above.

This picture gives a better view of the drive-in restaurant at the northwest corner of the stadium. The Water and Power site names it as Herberts, seen here in 1949.
