Just a quick aside since you found it unusual... I've got photos of two separate occasions when my oldest aunt and uncle (we think) posed in a cart hitched up to a goat, circa 1916-17. There's a photo of my Dad from the late 1930s as well, but on a pony (and in western costume!). These were all in central Iowa however so I'll not include them here.
