CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- For the first time in the history of the Parul Sampernandu, a 16-foot giant lantern from this city, is shining permanently in
Singapore.
The giant lantern, crafted with plastic and powered by 800 bulbs, was shipped to Singapore in component parts and is on display at the Cathedral of Good Shepherd. It costs the City Government some P150,000 to put the giant lantern for the “Paskong Pinoy 2012: Giant Parol in Singapore.”
Complemented by 42 smaller fiberglass lanterns, it is the first time a giant lantern is on international display, after the Fernandino lanterns made waves and are still colorfully shining in
Beijing, China; Bangkok, Thailand; New York and Maryland in the United States; Russia, Hawaii, Poland, Italy; and 12 other countries, according to Mayor Oscar Rodriguez.
