Here's a good look at a soda fountain in 1916 Los Angeles.

What are the cylinder shaped things on the tables...napkin dispensers? ....straw dispensers?
-not sure what Kremal means. Russian for caramel?

I think the cylinders are straw dispensers with a window on the side to see how many straws were left. I have one similar one that is clear all the way around.

Kremal was a non-alcoholic beverage that was supposed to taste like beer. It was made right here in Los Angeles by the Edward R. Maier Brewing Company which later made the famous (or infamous, to this site) "Brew 102" . At one point, during prohibition, the plant was raided since apparently some of the brew was above the legal limit for alcohol content.
