The graffiti was there legally. The artists had all the permissions to paint and were paying money to rent the studio space, and the graffiti was curated, so not everyone could just show up to paint. 5Pointz was a world famous graffiti site, hands down the most important/famous graffiti area in the world. NYC lost a cultural attraction that people from all over the world came to see for a bland architecturally-bankrupt apartment block.
