(I really knew nothing about Linder, who was popular in France but felt he bombed in the US. You guys aren't gonna believe it, but I think I found it (I still can't really believe it myself). When I was young, me and my dad would go driving all over Pasadena and LA in general just to explore, which was a big part of how I got acquainted with LA architecture. There was this big mansion on Palm Street in Altadena that caught our eyes enough to go back and check it out several times. I couldn't remember exactly what it looked like, but the mystery house reminded me of it, so it made me want to pull up Google Street View just to see it again. Here's what I found:

Location is 1366 E. Palm Street in Altadena. It appears to be the same shape and the ornament around the front entrance looks to be the same as well. Of course, the windows on either side of the entrance are completely different - I figured that the still from the movie shows the rear facade of the house. Did a little more research and found that the house was also used on an episode "Knots Landing." That took me to a page that had a rear view of the house as it appeared in the episode. Looks to be same facade shown in the still from the movie:

The site also has a screen shot of the Google aerial view, which I think pretty much solves the mystery of the mystery house:
