I think your fantasy map is ideal for Toronto, given the overall street grid layout
The Pearson-Union rail also will be a big plus for the city.
(when YUL is hooked up to the Montreal Metro, the three largest cities in Canada
will have direct airport-downtown rail links. Kinda nice.)
