Diller Scofidio + Renfro-Designed 15 Hudson Yards Gets Curvy, Hudson Yards

YIMBY has covered progress across Hudson Yards extensively in recent months, and the neighborhood’s rapid transformation is nothing short of incredible. But the last time we looked at progress at the Diller Scofidio + Renfro-designed Fifteen Hudson Yards, it was back in December of 2016, when it was at its eighth floor. Now, eleven months later, work is approaching the upper floors of the soon-to-be 70-story tower, which is being developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group.

The project is two years out from the start of foundation work back in October of 2015, so considering the relative complications with the adjacent railyard platform, progress has been fairly swift. Besides the residential tower, which will stand 915 feet to its roof, Fifteen Hudson Yards also includes the Culture Shed, which will become the neighborhood’s premiere event space.

As for the tower itself, which will contain 285 condominiums and 106 affordable housing units, work appears to be around the low 50s in terms of current floor-count. With another 20-odd floors to go before topping-out, the building is already making quite an impact on the local skyline, and will imminently surpass the already-completed 10 Hudson Yards. The marketing floor count will be 88.

Perhaps most noticeably, the curves on the upper floors are also beginning to become substantially more prominent. The indentations will continue to increase as the tower continues to rise, resulting in a four leaf-clover-esque envelope as it closes in on the parapet, which will ensure it remains distinguished on the overall skyline even as supertalls rise in the blocks to the north and northeast.

Ismael Leyva Architects is the architect of record, and The Rockwell Group is the design architect. Completion is expected by the end of next year.
