We should not subsidize demolitions with tax abatements. Phoenix is starting to get over that tho and realizing incentives require tit-for-tat negotiations rather than historically selling the farm for anybody that stops by with a rendering.
That is not completely true. I went to 3 of the RAA meetings concerning the development and the building's height was brought up multiple times by local residents and the RAA. The GPLET was the other issue along with residents concerned about the demolition of the "historic" Stewart building that was not on any historical registry. The demo occurred well after initial meetings and just infuriated the locals more. But height was a concern from day 1 of the project and the RAA at the time recommended against the development.
