The tallest buildings in downtown can be built is about 800 feet and only in limited sections most of downtown is capped to a height of 600 to 700 feet because of Logan Airport across the harbor. That is part of the reason the skyline is consistently made up of buildings around 500 to 600 feet tall downtown. There is a request for proposal for a 750 to 800 foot tower on the Winthrop Square garage site. The selection process is currently ongoing and the selected developer and plan should be announced a few weeks from now.

The only places a 1000 foot tower could go are in some parts of Cambridge near Kendall Square which is unlikely because of nimbys. In Back Bay there are a few spots one is near the John Hancock tower, the other spots are all clustered near where the Prudential Center is within a couple blocks of where the new Four Seasons hotel tower is being built.
