You're probably right. The model makes the concrete slab on top of the podium look sterile and uninviting. I guess I just remember how pleasant walking around the West Campus used to be, with all the old houses and lots of trees, when I went to UT. I lived, with a couple of roommates, on the second floor of an old house on Longview, and we knew lots of people in the neighborhood, and the new density of West Campus just doesn't allow for a lot of greenery and backyard barbeques, and that old neighborhood feeling.
On the other hand, Pease Park will always be over there, and that's a pleasant place to spend some times outdoors and for students to relax on a nice day.
