I still haven't found a better picture of the lifeguard headquarters, but I did come across this 1940 aerial which shows the two Venice piers. The Sunset Pier is the one on the right. This was before the beach widening (just to prove it wasn't always land-locked), and shows the 45 degree bend in the Sunset Pier. I've arrowed the location of the lifeguard's building. USC also have
a 1933 aerial of the same area, but the buildings on the pier look different. At one point there was a ballroom on the end of the Sunset Pier, and I think it was extended before it was demolished.
