The building being demolished is a 1960's glass box, not a "magnificent prewar". What are you even talking about?
2 WTC is obviously being built on the site of the former WTC, and isn't replacing any "magnificent prewars". It's universally lauded by all the starchitects at Ground Zero. I'm pretty sure downtown is not "suffering immensely" by having the WTC rebuilt as opposed to leaving it an empty pit.
