Every child who ever went to school in North Carolina knows all about the Lost Colony, and can cite you chapter and verse on all matters Roanoke Island. Fun thing though, is that North Carolina is such a long state that once you get past Charlotte, it's closer for people to go to the beaches of either South Carolina or Virginia. I've never set foot on a North Carolina beach in my life.
