Yeah, apparently a wet suit makes a world of difference. My colleague says he goes kitesurfing in Lake O in the winter. I've seen a couple people doing that on Lake Erie as well in late November.
I did the polar bear dip for charity once in Oakville and luckily it was like 10 degrees and no wind that day. So comfortable. Ran into the lake and as soon as I got balls deep, and they shrivelled up into the size of raisins, I booked it out of there. But some people went full immersion. After the adrenaline, and double digit weather, tonnes of us walked back to our cars shirtless or in just swimsuits. Odd sight to see people strolling down the sidewalk half nake on January 1st.
