Expansion continues: Amazon to add 778K square feet of office space with two more buildings in Seattle

Another day, another Amazon building going up in Seattle.
Amazon has submitted proposals with the city to construct two buildings on a block near the company’s new 3.3 million square foot campus in the Denny Triangle area that’s currently under construction.
As noted this morning by the Puget Sound Business Journal,
Amazon plans to build one 24-story tower and another 6-story building on the block between Seventh and Eighth avenues, and Bell and Blanchard streets. There are also proposals to build a 1-story retail building, and two “office podiums” at 3- and 5-stories each.
In total, the buildings will provide an extra 778,000 square feet of office space. Amazon paid $52 million earlier this year for the block, which is just north of the new campus and currently serves home to the Hurricane Cafe, a Budget Car Rental office, a Cornish College of the Arts residence hall and parking lots — all of which will be taken out to accommodate for Amazon’s new properties.

Amazon has been gobbling up land near downtown Seattle for the past few years to accommodate its explosive growth. The online giant plans to build three 38-story office towers and an eye-catching three-sphere biodome on the new 3-block campus that it acquired for more than $1.1 billion, which will compliment Amazon’s current headquarters campus in South Lake Union.
Amazon also has options to buy another large chunk of land just to the north and west of the block purchased in January.
On top of all this, Amazon expanded again last year with a new 10-year lease for about 140,000 square feet at the Metropolitan Park North building. In addition, it has begun work on the 380,000-square-foot project of two connected buildings and open space along Westlake and 9th Avenues, between Mercer and Republican Streets.
