Surge Tacoma picked to redo Old City Hall

Tacoma has selected a team to redevelop its Old City Hall.
The city received five responses to a request for proposals it issued in May for the 125-year-old historic building, located at 625 S. Commerce St. in downtown Tacoma.
Surge Tacoma proposes to create 20,000 square feet retail on the first and second floors, and more than 20,000 square feet of office and co-working space for a technology center on the third and fourth floors.
The fifth floor would have 40 micro-apartments, with a mix of market rate and affordable units.
In addition, there would be a restaurant in the basement and a bar on Pacific Avenue. Two rooftop restaurants are also planned, as well as an event space in the clock tower.
The team wants to turn the 125-year-old building into retail, restaurants, housing and office space.
