After only 17 months construction period took place to today's 27. May 2009 the completion of carcass of the east wing of the museum for natural history Berlin, destroyed in the war. Presumably into September 2010 the zoo-logical collection existence comprehensive over 257.000 glasses will also draw the wet collections so called, as well as preparation workshops and work spaces of the museum for natural history Berlin here in alcohol conserved animals.

Over 730 t steel blocked, 466 concrete vehicles with 2.800 cubic meters of freight were needed, 22,207 m electrical cables were moved. 150 coworkers were daily busy at the reconstruction of the east wing on the average, who had worked even in the coldest winter for 50 years, in order to keep the time schedule: Into September into collection halls like a hall and the zweigeschossigen of the new building over 257.000 glasses in alcohol conserved frogs, queues, lizards spiders and worms will also draw 2010. The wet collections of the largest naturkundlichen research establishment of Germany had to be stored so far under conditions, which are particularly problematic for the preservation of the collection objects and under fire protection-technical criteria. The collections are archives of nature and basis for the study of the evolution of the earth and the life.

With the optimal accommodation of our wet collections in the east wing completely more substantially and particularly endangered part of this archives of the life is gerettet" on a long-term basis; , so Reinhold of flax fields, general manager of the museum for natural history, which stressed: " Our collections are however not only most important research basis, it are also of high cultural importance. The accommodation of our wet collections in the east wing serves thus also the protection German Kulturgutes." It is pleased flax fields that over half millions will also profit annually museum visitor from the new east wing: Its ground floor will become part of the exhibition round course, so that visitors receive in the future an authentic impression from the scientific collections of the museum. "

The gradual redevelopment of the natural history museum stands just like the building of the new Federal Intelligence Service center symbolically for the gradual development of the accomodation around the Chausseestraße. Here an area develops, in which attractive living, cultural benefit and work and inspire mutually can interconnect. Same is valid for the lying close accomodation heath road: a project that the ecological and economic requirements of a new Urbanität become fair wird" , so Regula Lü, directress of building of senates in the senate administration for town development Berlin. " The natural history museum takes thereby as cultural point of anchor in a dynamically developing Kiez a privileged position. With its 200-jährigen tradition and history it works identity-donating and participates at the same time in the current departure of the Quartiers."

Destruction and reconstruction of the east wing The museum for natural history, established by the architect August Tiede 1885-1889, met 1945 a bomb in 2. Upper floor of the east wing and damaged the halls for the insect collections, the library and that " Anatomical Saal" the exhibition in the ground floor. By the way tearing of the supporting columns the east wing of the museum into the cellar collapsed. In the year 1995 an architectural competition became the modernization and basic repair of the museum for natural history of servant & Servant architect won.
