Gatwick Airport Station
Plans have been submitted for a rebuilt Gatwick Airport station. Originally built in 1891 the station was extensively redeveloped in 1958 following the opening of the old South Terminal which the station is adjacent to. The station is used by 19.4mn people (the airport handled 45.6mn last year) making it the sixth busiest station outside of London. The plans envisions:
- Doubling the size of the station concourse including a new roof
- 8 new escalators, five new lifts and 4 new stairways
- Widening of platform 5 + 6
- Increased connectivity to the terminal building

Combined with improvements on the Brighton Main Line (the main line connecting Gatwick to London) and the Thameslink programme, Gatwick is aiming to boost connectivity to London and beyond and enable the airport authorities to pursue a raft of expansion projects. Construction is due to commence next year and be completed in 2022. All images sourced from Global Rail: https://www.globalairrail.com/news/e...tation-secured
