There's a zoomable version of the picture at USC which gives a little more detail. The sign on the left says "Adele California", while the one on the right says "Morris Nagel Versatogs". Both were apparently clothing companies. The Versatogs building has the number 2609. According to the CDs, Morris Nagel had a clothing store at 818 S Broadway in the '30s and '40s, but there's no mention of another building. I also found a 1949 advert for Versatogs on
coutureallure.com's blog, but no address was given.
