The new rental buildings at the former Lafayette Theatre site has topped off. Most of the 115 units will be market rate but about 25 will be for low-income families. This section of 7th Avenue between 131st and 132nd Street faces some rather large public housing so has thus been slow to develop in the past. This section of Harlem used to be a major social hub during Renaissance years and was the place to be seen but that is not so much the case today. We would rather have had the iconic theater restored for a cultural center with historic merit but alas that is not the case.
