Certainly
something would happen. If Dallas and Houston were the two largest cities in America it would mean that Texas is the most populated state in the union and with that the most important in terms of representatives, federal funds and perhaps pop culture trends as well.
Certainly you have to agree that
something happened when California become the most populated state in 1970? Came from nothing, to rise to become the most populated with the largest economy.
