The Lawlor Professional School/Denny hobby shop building was originally the office of the Taft real estate concern. A. Z. Taft had a good bit of property along the north side of Prospect Ave/ Hollywood Blvd, including a lemon grove between Van Ness and Wilton. His son A. Z. Jr. developed the grove, running Taft Avenue up the middle; the arroyo-stone pillars marked the tract's entrance. Both are seen in the photo in this prior post:
