The bottom two photos in HossC's post 33082 show the block bounded by West 70th and 71st Street, and South Hoover Street and South Menlo Avenue. It was the site of Mount Carmel High School, my alma mater.

The b&w photo shows the school.

MCHS, a boys Catholic high school run by the Carmelite Order, was established in 1935 and closed in 1976. It was closed due to declining enrollment and a change in the demographics of the surrounding neighborhoods from which the school drew students.

The school was used for interiors and some exteriors of the Ramones movie Rock and Roll High School, and was blown up at the end of the movie.
