The thing about the Sunset Strip in its glory days,
e_r, was that it was a "county island"--that is, though surrounded by incorporated land, it itself wasn't part of an incorporated city, least of all Los Angeles, so the rules were different (laxer, or lacking); and enforcement of what laws and rules there were wasn't by the LAPD but rather by ? the County Sheriff I guess, all of which brought about a . . . different aura.
