Street Car For Downtown St. Louis? (RFQ)

There are plans in the works for a new street car line in St. Louis.

The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis says the cost of the study is $200,000 and is being paid for by private donations. The partnership says if a streetcar line were to be built, it would likely require a private-public partnership.

Qualifications are due by 12:00 p.m. (noon) local time on Friday, June 22, 2012.

A number of urban planners and civic-minded people believe the downtown/central corridor street car needs to utilize Olive St./Lindell Boulevard streets (as shown the photos below) for optimal use and to build on the current development success of the corridor.

Along this corridor is the downtown core, downtown west, Midtown Alley, Harris-Stowe State University, St. Louis University, Wells Fargo Advisors (some 5,000 workers), Grand Center, Central West End, Forest Park, Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood.

It would connect to the new Loop Trolley.
