People walk further to get to Walmart or the mall than they do when they park downtown. It's got to be some sort of weird mental block that has to do with the environment they're in. Almost as if, if they can't see the front entrance to where they're going, they don't feel comfortable parking there, even if it is much closer than where they would park at a mall.
