thanks. I suppose that when most people look at Rio photos, its difficult to understand why its considered a megacity. Where are the 11 million people?? Hell, even the downtown hardly is shown on touristic photos of the city... its usually, only Ipanema and Copacabana, and Botafogo and Flamengo (these two usually appear on photos of the Christ Statue (looking towards Niteroi at the other side of the bay) or of the Sugarloaf mountain.
But this photo definitly shows the size of the city. From this photo, you only need a closer look at Copacabana and Ipanema (to relate the size of the buildings with the beach) to have a better notion of the total size of the city.
FYI, Copacabana beach is 3,62 km long (in a straight line, from one extremity to the next) or 4km long, if you follow the curve of the beach....
