I was born in 1960 so I don't remember The New Steve Allen Show. (or for that matter the original Steve Allen Show)
I'll end with this sweet snapshot from Alison's site.

Around that time, 1961, I used to hang out at the Hollywood Playground's (now the Hollywood Recreation Center) public swimming pool and basketball courts. Afterwards, I would walk east on Lexington to the Baskin-Robbins on Vine and often see Steve Allen out on the street with a crowd around him doing live shots for his TV program. He used the Ranch Market and the Villa Elaine Apartments across the street as foils for his skits. Steve and his troupe, Louis Nye ("Hi-ho, Steverino"), Don Knotts, Tom Poston and Bill Dana were always around. Simpler times. Good memories.
