Marketed under the brand name Nitya Chapatti and Pooris, the products are available in most bakery outlets and general stores in Puttur and Sullia. The company’s manufacturing facility is in Narimogaru-Mukkve in Puttur.

The 26-item product range of the company, whose manufacturing facility covers an area of 3,000sq ft, includes not just chapattis, but millet products and flax seed preparations too. It also has entered into the ready-to-cook mixes for rava idli, dhal curry, upma, dosa and millet idli.

“Within a span of just one year, we covered a lot of areas to supply the range, but the focus is largely in Udupi and Mangaluru. We are looking to expand our reach in other parts of Karnataka, like Bengaluru and Mysuru. Exports are also in the pipeline,” Radhakrishna said.

“There is a visible trend that people have shifted to millets for better health and nutrition. A range of ready-to-cook and eat products are on the anvil. These include instant millet upma mix, dosa mix, idli mix and dhal curry, and will be available a few months from now. We intend to touch 30-40 products within this year,” said Radhakrishna.

Eating too much flaxseed/linseed is not good for health, it has to be taken like medicine in limited quantities. Styrene is the precursor to polystyrene and several copolymers. Polystyrene (OMPL produces benzene an intermediate for styrene/polystyrene) is a plastic used in televisions, computers, printers, cellphones & accessories, electronics enclosures & components, electrical components, optical fibers, medical devices, refrigerators/freezers, air conditioners, ovens, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, blenders, vehicle parts (knobs, instrument panels, sound dampening foam, etc), drones, wind turbine parts, panels, surfboards, toys, hobbycrafts, housewares, dinnerwares/utensils, fixtures, laboratory equipment (petridishes, test tubes microplates), food packaging (foam food container, cups, trays, cartons), packaging films (OPS), cosmetic containers, protective packages, CD/jewel cases, housing/construction (tubs, shower enclosures, EPS/XPS for insulation and cushioning - styrofoam, geofoam). In laboratories used for extracting oil and grease contaminates from soil and water. Hexane is a highly hazardous chemical.

Maleic Anhydride is used for many applications like fibreglass reinforced plastics (FRP), thermoplastic polyurethanes, elastane/spandex fibers, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resins, epoxy resins, lubricating oil additives, hair sprays, adhesives and floor polishes, detergents, insecticides and fungicides, pharmaceuticals and other copolymers. Maleic Anhydride is a hazardous chemical.

Whether MRPL is planning to manufacture this hazardous chemicals in Mangaluru to be sent to the parched city to support industrial activites there or it has any plan to generate employment here itself?

Solvay picks up minority stake in Catasynth Speciality Chemicals

This will be the company’s first investment in India in a joint venture. The amount of investment in Phase I by Solvay and the Anthea Group, which has set up Catàsynth, is $40 million. Solvay is a 155-year-old company headquartered in Brussels with around 24,500 employees in 61 countries and net sales of 10.3 billion euros in 2018.

The joint venture will leverage Anthea’s production capabilities and reinforce Solvay’s downstream integration into catechol-based products. Solvay is the largest producer of catechol in the world, the key raw material required by Catasynth, and has committed to meeting the raw material requirements of the joint venture. The joint venture between the Anthea Group and Solvay will introduce a number of products over the years and Solvay will market them globally.

India is fast becoming a manufacturing hub for speciality chemicals and the only real alternative to China. Catasynth, based on its patented technology, aims to be the most sustainable producer globally.

Peter Browning, president of Solvay Aroma Performance GBU, said: “Catasynth, ideally located in India, is reinforcing Solvay’s downstream integration and enables enlarging our product offer. We are committed to supplying our global suppliers with quality and security of supplies.”

ಸುಮಾರು 48 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾದ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಇಂಡಸ್ಟ್ರಿಯಲ್ ಏರಿಯಾ 1,407.16 ಎಕರೆ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಈಗ ಕೆಐಎಡಿಬಿ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಐಎಡಿಬಿಗೆ ಸರಕಾರದಿಂದ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಅನುದಾನ ಕೊರತೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದರ ಜತೆಗೆ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ನಗರ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಡುವ, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವಾಗುವ ತೆರಿಗೆ, ಸೆಸ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ. 70 ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ, ಶೇ.30 ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯ ಗ್ರಾ.ಪಂ.ಗಳು, ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆ ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan on Wednesday invited chip major Intel to set up manufacturing units in Mangaluru or Belagavi. "There is a port in Mangaluru while Belagavi is a few hours from a port in Goa," he was quoted as saying in a press release.

Mangaluru also has access to another international airport at Kannur which is far easier to access than acessing through westernghats. But for integrated chip manufactures, as quantity to be transported is less, transportation within India is not an issue.

I think seaport is mainly required for raw materials import whereas export can be done through air also.

MSEZ was in discussion with AT & S for leasing out 50 acres of land. Any further development on it? I some how feel chances of Mangaluru getting AT & S is higher than chances of getting Intel. All depends upon aggressive marketing by MSEZ.

Transport System is an issue. We are port city so we don't need highways for exporting but need for supply inside the country. Anyway now a days the central government supporting movement inside country also through water ways. We have many skilled labourers returned & returning from Gulf countries (are they skilled or normal workers?). With our good literacy level we can meet skill requirements easily. As such MRPL skill development centre is now busy training Tuluvas & despatching them to the parched city. But raw material-wise we have MRPL producing Xylol (Xylenes) & Polypropylene, OMPL producing Para-Xylene, Benzene, JBF producing PET & PTA. MRPL in next expansion planning for Ethyl Benzene/ Styrene, Isobutylbenzene (IBB), Hexane, Maleic Anhydride. With this all raw materials needed for textile & synthetic fabrics will be available locally. And raw materials of plastic components for mobile and electronic medical equipments will be available locally. But we don't know what is MRPL plan. (As such the central government has supported only the parched city for electronic items by establishing all central institutes there). We have to see whether KIOCL can extend support by establishing a medical grade steel unit. Land should not be a issue as MSEZ, Plastic Park has enough land for export-oriented companies. (I don't know why they say Plastic Park is 100% occupied!). Then there is Nagarjuna land and Niddodi land near by. And there is enough land in Padubidri also if companies don't like Canara industrial area.

If we look at China’s Top 10 Exports, chances of Mangaluru getting industries in plastics, synthetic fabrics are higher due to MRPL's expansion plans for petrochemical sector. Anyway electronic gadgets whether it is consumer or medical or automotive have enough plastic components. Even electronic chips are packaged in plastic, further Next-generation computers may boast plastic chips. If KIOCL or somebody plans for electrical steel manufacturing then only electrical equipments can also be manufactured easily for export. Anyway availabilty of other materials like Copper, Aluminium is also important.

Landwise KIADB has also acquisition plan for Aithikaribettu, Karnire 420 acres apart from mentioned ones above.

We can plan for 10 technology parks also but should have schedule first! It would be better to develop 'mixed-use tech parks' or 'hi-tech townships' or else tech park should be developed within city in a location where all facilities are available. Generally technology parks are associated with universities 1. So, deemed universities like Yenepoya, Srinivasa can be encouraged to do so with a kind of PPP model (threeway partenership - college, government & industry). And also already planned tech park at Blueberry Hills can also be developed for the rest. We can also plan for further enhancement of Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (NITK-STEP), Suratkhal. Even Saint Aloysius College which is planning to be a deemed university can also plan for tech park in their AIMIT campus. Can involve Mangaluru Smart City Limited also in the partnership.

According to the brokerage, the nationwide lockdown due to spread of Covid-19 has reduced capacity utilisation of the company and will impact its near term performance. On the business front, MRPL plans to augment its capacity from 15 MMTPA to 18 MMTPA over the next few years. However, the last expansion project to increase complexity as well as capacity did not achieve desired results. Also, weak global product spreads will affect refining margins thereby affecting profitability. MRPL’s investment in OMPL has also not paid off. It continues to be a drag at the consolidated level. The brokerage has downgraded the stock from reduce to sell with a target price of Rs 25/share (~0.5 times FY22E BV).

OMPL has not paid off due to MSEZ failure to attract downstream industries. And we can note that in the next expansion MRPL is giving more importance to petrochemicals rather than fuel. Hope a few exit-China companies will be able to exploit this situation of MRPL/OMPL.

How many acres of land is identified by DK MP for NIELIT? Where is it located? If it was already there we would have show cased it as our ability to train our work force for catering to electronics industry to attract a few exit-China electronics companies. Exit-China companies give importance to locations where skilled people are easily available. Now we have to convince these companies by blah blah that union minister has already promised for NIELIT & land for it is already identified.

I was going through news on 'Vietnam Silicon Valley' - Vietnam planning its own 'Silicon Valley' in Ho Chi Minh City 2 3. I was trying to understand to what an extent Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City can exploit SWAC 2 technolgy for its planned Silicon Valley to make it a more economical destination than India. I think unlike Mangaluru-Kochi stretch 'Vietnam Silicon Valley' don't have direct connection to south or north pole as it is sourrounded by so many island nations like Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan etc. That could be a comparative disadvantage for Vietnam to get colder water in vicinity of seashore.
