On the road, Summer 2023

It's late June already, but I plan on putting some random pictures from my travels for the summer of 2023 in a thread, before they sit on my laptop in obscurity. Updates will be occasionally, and hopefully will cover some interesting places in the US and Canada.

We'll start off with a picture from just before Memorial Day weekend. I had an afternoon to myself after work and went down to the Dogfish Head Brewery & Tasting Room in Milton, Delaware. If you are ever in the area, I recommend stopping in for a flight of beer. They brew one-offs in the tasting room and play around with recipes and ideas. In the tasting room, beers written in blue are exclusive to the tasting room. Usually the exclusive beers in the tasting room are exponentially better than the stuff that they can. New stuff that gets canned usually starts in the tasting room and gets rave reviews, helping them make a decision on what to distribute for the following year.

Very interesting! I love road trips; how long did it take you to drive from Delaware to Georgia? I figure you did it in, say, 6 hour increments? I guess it would depend on where you stop, too, and for how long...

A little over 5 hours from Henderson to Greenville, SC, including a stop for lunch.

EDIT: I mention Greenville because I stopped in town for a few hours to explore Downtown and visit a couple breweries.

Good stuff! I have been meaning to go to the DFH brewery for a while now.

Fun tour. Love myself a good road trip. My wife loves to fly vs drive, but I often times love driving and seeing everything along the way.

Nice churches & forest-burbs. The metal roofing church is my favorite. :)

I stayed overnight in Greenville, SC, after the Braves game. It helped me split up the drive back to Delaware. I arrived early enough at night that I had time for one beer and check out the nightlife a little bit.

Hauntedhead was a very gracious host and it was a nice morning exploring!

He reminded me that Shoeless Joe Jackson was from Greenville, which I should've known since I'm a sports guy, baseball guy, and since "Field of Dreams" is maybe my favorite movie. (Side note: "Field of Dreams" is slightly inaccurate; if Shoeless Joe Jackson was from South Carolina, would he have a Brooklyn accent like Ray Liotta?)

Shoeless Joe Jackson's house is still extant, and is located across the street from the minor league baseball stadium, Fluor Field. The Greenville Drive, affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have recreated the dimensions of Fenway Park, complete with a Green Monster in left field. It certainly seems like a great place for a ballgame!
