This will be decent filler and a vast improvement over the derlict buildings that currently occupy the site. They've been empty for quite some time.

Looks like a Jenga tower, not an excellent design, but not terrible either.

Danielson27 Oct 27, 2011 2:27 PM

Not bad. It reminds me of trump soho

RobertWalpole Oct 27, 2011 2:35 PM

It's by the same architect.

Dac150 Oct 27, 2011 5:33 PM

Cool stuff; that canyon continues to grow.

JayPro Oct 27, 2011 5:46 PM

This just might be the thing that gives that infamously skid mark-striped sore thumb next to it a bit of an interesting contrast...kind of a Yin Yuck dynamic. This proposal is definitely the Yin.
Facade/window treatment of this sort is really starting to grow on me.

That render is pretty sketchy, but so far I really like what I see. Much more interesting than the dark blue box next door.

scalziand Oct 27, 2011 8:48 PM

I take it that this project does not extend all the way to 41st street? It would be a shame if that dumpy bit on the corner remains undeveloped.

brian.odonnell20 Oct 27, 2011 9:02 PM

easily one the ugliest buildings i've ever seen..

I think this is pretty awesome actually. With glass curtain walls seeming to be the way of the world nowadays, it feels like architects and developers are running out of ways to be creative with new skyscrapers. Playing with the actual surface of the facade is becoming a great way to continue building unique structures. It's what made NY by Gehry great and it's what will make 56 Leonard great.

Before anyone claws my face off for that comment, I still think that NY by G and 56 are top tier skyscrapers, whereas this is merely a decent filler building. It's got character though and there's nothing wrong with that. It'll mingle nicely with the zebra building next door. :P

They need to keep building here anyway so that they drum up enough incentive for the subway station at 10th & 41st.

...OMG I love how the $1 pizzeria tent-lookin' shit on the corner of 41st and 9th has been left standing and featured in the rendering. :haha:

RobertWalpole Oct 28, 2011 11:44 AM

One time, I saw a guy with a brand new, top of the line Rolls Royce double-park in front of that tent to buy some weiners. It was funny.

I can see the value engineering in the rendering alone. Considering as well the quality of other recent developments in the area and my hopes are not high. Materials will make or break this building.

Danielson27 Nov 3, 2011 5:13 PM

I like the tower up into this point. Everything above that is a mess!!

Any updates? The supermarket closed down recently.

raymeechen Jul 12, 2013 3:22 PM

The old buildings are being torn down this week. I think the hotel is about to come up.

Hopefully, they'll go full circle, and immediately begin demolition of this new monstrosity once it's built. In fact, they can continue down the block and stop at the MIMA tower. I'll take a "boring", glass tower any day over this.
