Holy crap! There's no end in sight to these Toronto skyscrapers!

C. Jan 19, 2018 2:23 AM

The base looks really really strange.

Coldrsx Jan 19, 2018 10:01 PM

Toronto, you are ridiculous.

canucklehead2 Jan 19, 2018 10:20 PM

Love it! Hope it gets built before the next condo crash!

Condo crash? I doubt it, with the way this city has been booming in the last twenty years with buildings.

canucklehead2 Jan 20, 2018 1:20 AM

And that's exactly what everyone says RIGHT before it happens.. Hubris is a hell of a thing, "sir"...

I understand your philosophy, yet I'm unsure of what could possibly contribute to a "crash".

This proposal is interesting...but I'm not going to comment on much more of it since the render is preliminary.

koops65 Jan 20, 2018 2:36 AM

It's 55 Lake Shore with a new name. The proposal has been around for 2 years now. This render is the 4th or 5th different rendition so far...

Rendering #6 can't come soon enough.

DrNest Jan 20, 2018 2:43 PM

Very true. This latest iteration looks so bland.

Yea....it feels like it's preliminary because of the way the render is shown and the way it focuses on the lower area of the project. I just passed by today..here:

Interesting. Equipment already in place despite lack of approval, or is it for a different development?

MolsonExport Jan 21, 2018 3:15 AM

Shee-it. that is one hell of a giant project proposal, and one that would utterly transform the skyline from the familiar Lake angle.

What is the deal with almost supertalls? 2 meters until 300....do it!

The equipment is for the first tower for this project, or the only one that has proper approvals and the tenant necessary to move ahead, it's the 25 floor office tower that will be mostly occupied by LCBO, who presently own the lands of where this proposal would be built off of.

Ah yes, quite right. I can't keep up with all that's afoot in this bustling burg. The office tower is insipid as all hell, and they don't seem to have proper renders for the rest of the complex.

A complete bore of a development. As far as the skyline, it's just going to create a glass wall given how the towers are spaced to maximize views.

koops65 Jan 29, 2018 8:05 PM

The original proposal was for twin supertalls, but I think One Yonge next door has been granted some sort of privileged status and will be the tallest in the area, so these towers were shortened a little bit. :???:

A similar thing exists in the Entertainment District, with TIFF being the tallest...

How does that work? Generally curious as never heard of this before.
Does the developer have to pay extra to ensure nothing is given permission to be taller near by? And how long does that privilege last?

GeneralLeeTPHLS Jan 30, 2018 12:56 AM

I don't think it works that way....but it's definitely strange. I suppose the city is nodding to a height peak in some areas and more of a height limit in others....just based on how the cities' been growing.
